The Harley Davidson Shake - Dyna vs. Softail. This video shows just how big the vibration difference is. I was surprised to be honest. Results as expected?

The Softail has a counterbalanced engine the Dyna does not . That is why I sold my Softail . Couldn't get used to the sound of the counterbalancer . I ride a Harley because I enjoy the primitive air cooled push rod V-Twin . After riding Shovelheads my whole life I couldn't get used to the smooth counterbalanced engine . I love the shake , rattle , and roll .

I’ve got a Soft tail and a 1200 Sportster in my garage. The Sportster will shake fillings out of your teeth. The soft tail is smooth as silk.

I’ve heard as much regarding the Sportster. Has the shake lessened with the newer models?

When I used to ride, I wanted fast, smooth, and quite. Harleys did not check any of those boxes. They do sound good, usually.

My 1200 is rubber mounted, so it shakes a lot at idle but smoothes out as soon as you pull away from a stop.

Love their sound. But just too unreliable and under-powered without going full stage 3.

I'm not to sure about your view on reliability . The newer " 2012 and newer" are pretty reliable . 2014 got a huge upgrade with larger forks and a better frame . Of course I completely agree with you about performance . Hard to believe the engine is so large and still under 100 hp from the factory . The new Milwaukee engine has 4 valve heads so hopefully they have better performance .

2009 and up is the mark for reliability and ride-ability BUT.... they're still way overpriced compared to metrics of the same caliber.

I had it stuck in my brain that 2012 was when the cam tensioners were finally reliable from the factory and didn't crumble like the earlier twin cams .

Definitely over-priced.

My Sporty 1200 is the same way. It's a 2004 - the first year of the rubber mounts. Makes a difference.
