Crappie fishing for several years now and want to start tying my own jigs. Don't know where to start so if I could get some basic direction from you guys i would appreciate it. Are start up kits the best way to get my feet wet? Any help would be Great.

Seems you already made your decision to start tying your own jigs. My advice would be to stay away from starter kits as the vises in them are cheap and you will replace it eventually so save your money and get yourself a good quality vise. It is the most important tool you will own. Other tools are a whip finisher, bobbin, hackle pliers, and sharp scissors. These tools can be cheap or as expensive as you like. They all work the same to a certain degree. Skip48 on here can set you up with chenille and hackle or fur.. Ebay is a good source for tying supplies. There are also many other websites for tying materials. A google search will help you find whatever you need. I'm sure others will chime in with additional advice. Have fun with it and welcome to the addiction!

Here's a good place to look around at supplies. Plenty to choose from. http://stores.crazyanglertackle.com/

What gar1970 said about the vice is good advice. Take a look at Odyssey vices https://www.griffinenterprisesinc.com/

or Peak vices which Skip48 sells. https://peakfishing.com/products/vise-packages

And welcome to the addiction

Ken has it just about covered! I use a Peak rotary vise and love it. I would recommend Danville 210 flat wax thread when you get started. You'll be glad you did! Have fun and start taking up donations for the addiction ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Hello just one more, I have been tying for a couple of years now and i started off with a cheapo vise and that one didnt last long so i bought a Wolff vise. I have the Wolff Atlas and my husband has the Apex. They are both made from stsinless steel and will last you a lifetime. Made in the USA.

And the initial investment sounds high and it is, but in the long run your dollars ahead. And you will change how you fish. Nothing compares to ketchin fish on jigs you spunup yourself...especially on days they don't wont bite!

Spoken by a super jig maker, who's jigs seem to catch anything that swims. Great baits. hooked
