 Driving on Galveston Beach

I am taking a trip down to G town for the first time. I asked the beach patrol what beaches you can drive on and park. Plan in doing some surf and night fishing.
She came back and said none. So I was seeing that the pocket beaches you can drive on and Google maps show cars parked by the surf. So is she not correct or am I missing something? Is it only beaches that the beach patrol patrol?
Locals help would be welcome.
