He was part of the Yankees in the 50s and 60s when they were winning everything. A 16 year career with 1 team is almost unheard of now. RIP

Sad that the name Whitey Ford wouldn't fly in today's world.... Would need to be something like Whitey Dodge. bolt

BTW, I wonder how a Dizzy Dean/PeeWee Reese called game would look in color.....

I remember watching those games as a little kid and when I started pitching in the Little League I envisioned myself as the next Whitey Ford. Seems like the Yankees were on every weekend back then and it was the only game on all week. And in black and white, no color.

Listened and watched many games with "the chairman of the board" on the mound for the Yanks. Great left handed pitcher. RIP Whitey angel

I saw him pitch in person many times

As nifty a southpaw as I’ve ever seen

Stay hard Whitey and say hello to Mick

When I was young kid playing Little League baseball in Commerce, Oklahoma Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford showed up to a practice we were having. Mickey and Whitey ended up pitching some balls for my Little League batting practice. At the time I knew who they were, especially Mickey, but was not old enough to understand the significance of that encounter.

RIP Whitey.
