...the latest tech. Caught these two on The Vine this morning using a 50-year-old rod that belonged to my FIL, paired with a cheap Bass Pro spinning reel spooled with 8lb mono that had not been used for at least seven years. Since my FIL rarely fished and only with his friend that provided the tackle, I suspect those are the only fish caught on this ancient rod. Caught five smaller ones too - most on a chatterbait. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-1447-68215-resized_20200929_082522.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-1447-68216-resized_20200929_085041.jpeg)

This really IS a good post. Its very true you don't need all the latest gadgets. All you really need is a love of doing it. Fact is, I dont use any type of GPS or fish finder. I like only a few kinds of reels, none new, lol. Ive managed to find a few fish when im lucky.

Grapevine was not as generous to me this morning - four bass, largest about 15 inches. Never found a good school of shad to focus my casts. All fish caught on a lipless crank.

And another chunk falls for the swimbait. It has been a sweet autumn bass fishing on The Vine this year. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-1447-70080-20201016_072801.jpg)

Nice bass! I myself use a couple of rods and reels that I’ve had for 30 years. Still work great and the fish don’t mind!

I still catch fish on ancient wooden lures, especially Hula Poppers, that I inherited from my grandparents. I only use them in situations where I know I won't lose them though.
