I got an airbrush and I'm getting into painting blanks. I finished a few them off with 2 Ton Epoxy and they look great. Is this the norm or is dipping them a better way to go? Are there other finishing products out there that I don't know about? Thanks!!

I use the epoxy mixed with some denature alcohol to thin the epoxy. It’s paintable and being thin, a little goes a long way. Too thin and we be epoxy will pool though.

I use KBB Diamond Clear. Tough as nails and they make a Aerosol can for ease of use for small batches. You can find it on Amazon like everything is nowadays.

I was wondering about KBB and how the aerosol works out. Right now I'm using 2 Ton Epoxy, kind of a pain but I have some I want to dip in the near future.

KBB Diamond. Pour it into taller mason jar so you can dip longer baits. Hang the bait with a wire drip from the back ring to help drip excess.

I just stared using Aluma UV. It’s a 1 part UV resin that you cure with UV light. It stays in a liquid state until you hit it with the UV light source. It gets rock hard. Only draw back is you have to get a UV light or build a curing chamber. I use black lights I bought from Walmart and built my own curing box. PM if have more questions or want to see what I use.

I dip mine in KBS Diamond clear. Two or 3 coats. You hang a wire on the back hook hanger to help it drip away from the bait unless it's a rattle type bait, then you need to dab it a few times or you'll have a big bubble on the tail end. It does seem to be prone to getting a few bubbles any where there's a spot where the clear can't level out good. Give that stuff about a month or two to cure and it is tough though. It's a moisture cure and if you don't use bloxygen it will harden up on you before you get your moneys worth, unless your doing a whole lot of baits.

I've used KBS for a while now and it does tend to harden in the can or bottle after a few months. Been using this as a solution for the problem and so far it works great. You can find this and more like it on Amazon.

I can’t compare it to their big can of liquid for dipping, but you really need 7-8 coats of the spray for that epoxy like finish with the aerosol application

That said, I prefer the more subtle look of 3-4 coats with the KBS spray aerosol

Much, much easier than what I was doing before with the two part epoxy coat.

I also prefer the softer coat you get with KBS compared with the unnatural rock hard coat you get with epoxy

I just got started painting baits and have been having a blast. Youtube has been a treasure trove of information about doing it. Based on one of the comments on one of the videos I was watching.. he said that he had had good luck using water based polyurethane for a top coat. So, that is what I have been using. I found the last 2 pints of Varathane gloss finish at home depot and have been using that. I poured the two cans into a big mason jar, and have been dipping the baits into the jar. Instructions say first coat, let dry for a couple of hours then 2nd coat. I let that dry for 24 hours and they have turned out pretty nice. Not as thick as epoxy, but they look pretty good I can't figure out how to upload a picture, but I would if I could

I've used polyurethane on hard plastic blanks with good results. The only down side was when the hooks wore through the finish and it began to delaminate or peel off the lure like a decal. Have you had any issues like that? Use the "upload inline images" icon (the one with the up arrow) and select a picture you have stored on your PC or phone in .jpeg format...that usually works for me.
