I borrowed a trolling motor from a friend and when I was hooking up the wires there are two wires. Do I need to plug the third prong into the receptacle or is it irrelevant. The reason I’m asking is I couldn’t get the prongs to stay put because the wires didn’t hook up just right to the plug. I have power so I think everything’s good, but thought I’d find someone that actually know about electrical current. Thanks!

Pictures of the plug & receptacle in question would help tremendously.
