I have been on the fence about getting livescope but am about to fall off that fence, too many videos out there showing the benefit. My question for the bass/crappie fisherman is are you able to maximize the benefit or at least half way maximize the benefit of livescope with your transducer mounted on the TM fishing for crappie vs a separate transducer pole to crappie fish? I am split between chasing crappie and bass and really don't want another pole mounted just for crappie. I know this is the crappie forum but I think a lot of bass/crappie guys are on here so I thought I would see what they thought of livescope mounted on the TM for both bass and crappie, thanks.

When I’m crappie fishing, I use spot lock FAR too much for TM mounted Livescope to be remotely effective. Any fish you see would go off the screen as soon as it turns. I really don’t see any way to use Livescope for crappie on anything but a separate pole. That said, as soon as I get time I’d like to try it in perspective mode for bass.

I have also been thinking about getting one of the separate pole transducers that mount on the ultrex. I don't want a separate obsticale on my bow. I bass fish from mid Oct thru May and crappie fish the standing timber mostly in the summer. My Livescope is just mounted on the shaft with the kit that came with it. When it's mounted on the Ultrex especially on non windy days it's so frustrating because the TM is spinning so much and you loose your image, on windier days its not as bad as you can move into the structure from down wind and the image stays more focused on what you are fishing.

The advantage on bass fishing is having the ability to accurately flip those stumps and bushes that you don't see that are submerged below the water. You are using your trolling motor to approach the structure and you will get your bearing as to where to cast, so as a bass fisherman I think just mounting it directly to the Ultrex is good enough, as a crappie fisherman I am wanting the separate pole transducer.

So my advice is take the dive, get the Livescope and just mount it to your Ultrex with the kit that comes with the transducer and try it out. There is one guy out there that has a small motor that you can remotely turn the transducer with a fob like key, but I've heard a few negative issues on it. Let those bugs get worked out and then add it later.

Perspective mode works real well for chasing white bass around too!

I don’t fish for bass. I’m pretty well a crappie only guy. For crappie, I would not ever have the livescope transducer on the trolling motor. It would make me crazy. I don’t think you would ever be happy with it for crappie.

I know I’m not who you asked since I don’t fit that description, but that’s my two cents.

I like chasing roaming fish and that’s hard to do if it’s not on the TM. That said there’s times I want one on a pole as well. I just went with double Livescope to solve that problem. That said I rarely use the one on the pole. I will say you will figure out how good you are or aren’t at boat control once you stick it on the TM.

Lots of good info, thanks. The pole that deploys with the ultrex is interesting, never heard of it. It’s almost like bass/crappie guys need both, 1 mounted on TM and 1 on a separate pole. But that’s not an option, way too expensive.

That’s what I have also. Mounts on the Ultrex but “steers” on its own. I like it so far and have one less thing to clutter up the bow. I haven’t used it much but I like it so far.

If you’ve never seen one it’s hard to explain. The mount is static to the Ultrex, but you can turn the transducer irrespective of where the TM is pointing. Spot Lock can do its thing without affecting the direction of your transducer.

Low Pro Rod Rack transducer mount is the way to go. Mounts beside and deploys with TM shaft. Guy is very responsive to questions and gets your order out fast.

This is an ALL ABOARD Marine mounted to my Ultrex. I'm 90% Bass and 10% Crappie. I'm also using a Prospective mount at the end. I typically use Perspective view with fishing for bass in <10ft. Forward view for anything deeper than 10ft.
