I personally do not however I have friends who do. They have ordered every type of tackle including baits such as soft plastics and hard baits. The love it and have had no problems at all. thumb

I have a reel and some lines I’ve ordered off of Amazon, and I’m about to order an inexpensive rod to have as a backup. For the money, the gear on Amazon is unbeatable.

I find the gear on there to be about the same or possibly even better quality than the Cabela’s house brand/Bass Pro White River brand fly gear for much less than you would pay at those stores.

Check out Maximumcatch, Piscifun, and Kastking brands. They aren’t Sage/Lamson/Orvis/Redington/etc quality, but for the money, they are great and work very well for beginners, backup/beater gear, or someone on a budget.

I buy a lot of gear off of amazon, and would recommend it. As a general rule, even if you buy something that doesn't work out, you can try out a different item or two until you find a good one and still be ahead of the game.

These are the categories in which I get a lot of gear from amazon and feel there is a significant cost savings with little or no drop in quality:
Tackle bags and fly boxes
On the water gear - nippers, forceps, zingers, tippet holders
Tapered leaders
Tippet spools
Backing
Reels

Fly lines is maybe the one place I won't give a full endorsement to amazon. Based on reviews and my own limited experience, the quality is "almost as good" as the name brands. The fly line is the least forgiving piece of your equipment, and I am not willing to compromise on quality there.

Flies can be hit or miss. I've gotten flies by the dozen and singles. Some I have been very pleased with, some fall apart very quickly. Make sure you know the hook size you are after when ordering, because there is never any type of scale in the pictures or descriptions.

Rods - I won't say much because this is a highly personal decision. I do have a little 7' 3WT that I use on local bass ponds that I really love. Cost about $60, and is perfect for what I use it for.

Some things I do. A lot of times it actually comes from a fly shop. I keep a very close look at Sierra Trading Post also.

I buy some items from Amazon, but I mainly use EBay. You can get some really good deals.

I haven’t had very good luck with ebay lately. I used to get good deals on there regularly and ordered quite a bit of gear from there, but in the last year or so, anything I’ve been wanting to pick up has been going for not much less than what new full retail cost is. Which makes it not worth it to me anymore so I haven’t bothered to buy much on there lately.

I have ordered a UL spin and a Fly rod from Amazon. Flies I order from a fly site byt have bought some flies from Amazon, other tackle Cabela's or Scheel's. No problems, but sometimes Amazon is ridiculously high priced, so skip those.

I prefer to support small local shops for anything. Bozo is rich enough, while shoving small biz out
