It matters to me. I figure the more confidence I have in a color the better I will do.

Color matters. Fish matter... the point is to catch more fish and color does that.

Color matters, I dont get to hung up on it but I have seen where we were worm fishing and had the same main color worm on but one had a color flake that the other didnt and it got bit while the other one didnt. Same exact worm too. I agree. I have seen many times over and over that a particular color will work better than others depending on what the fish want that day. Some days several colors might work but some days you will find one color that works best. I have been fishing Welsh lake lately and color matters quite a bit out there. After you find the fish you have to figure out which color they want most that day. One day a buddy of mine and I were out there and he was throwing a V&M worm and I was throwing a Strike King in the same color. After he caught 4 fish I switched to the V&M because I hadn't gotten a bite on the Strike King and I started catching fish on it. One weekend my wife and I wore them out on a color that hasn't worked well since that day. Other colors have worked better. I have about 5-6 go-to colors that work in most lakes so I experiment with those till I find the one they bite the best. One day in early spring at Lake Fork, South Africa Special color had been working well for a couple of weeks. Then for some reason we couldn't get bit on it when I knew we should have gotten a bite for as many casts we had made that morning. I switched to Junebug/red and went back down the same bank and caught fish. My buddy stuck with thee SA Special for a while longer and did not get bit till he switched to Junebug/red like I was throwing. Action of the bait --- sometimes no action at all works best. I have caught a lot of fish dead sticking a bait. How many of you in your early years of fishing make a cast, get a backlash, and after you get it out and reel the line in you find you have a fish on the end of your line. That happened to me a few times when i was learning how to throw a bait caster on a farm pond. Dead sticking. Winter time fishing,,,,if you ask "what is your favorite jig and trailer color" most of the answers you will get will be black/blue. It matters. I experiment with color and action to see what the fish want best that day. Some days I never figure out what they want....LOL

From time to time a new color will out produce an older more established color. I always start with the color I have the most confidence in, WM red flake. I've caught fish on that color where the water visibility was 18" and also where I could see the bottom in 8 feet. I will use black & blue more during the spawn due to the similarities of that color and a bluegill but for the other 10 months out of the year I will be using some variation of WM.

You can think what you want, but it matters. It changes with lure type and presentation. It is critical with many lures on many lales

Color in my experience of 50 plus years bass fishing is only about ten percent and 90 percent is the action of the bait! In a shad based lake you can still catch bass on a black spinner bait with black blades. In a blue gill pond you can still catch bass on a white spinner bait. Some baits like a buzzbait make so much splashing the fish would never see the color of the skirt.
Why does a black worm with yellow tail catch ten times as many farm pond bass as does a black worm With a white or fire tail? Thats the one time i think color matters.
I usually just fish the opposite of the light conditions to make is easy for the fish to see it, overcast days i use white, bright sunny days i use black in a weightless worm for example.
Color is used by manufacturers (pimps) and the pro's (their whores) to sell more tackle!
For example: a hula popper or jitterbug comes in many color patterns on the top of the lure but the bottom only comes in 3 colors black white and yellow and the fish cant see the top.
Color is used mainly to separate you from your money!
If color doesn't really matter then why wouldn't you just keep one color in your boat of all baits. Just buy everything in white.

Most of the time it comes down to confidence! What your most comfortable with!
Why does a pink buble gum worm catch bass?
