Going to go there to see some friends in a couple of week and I have never been there. I am looking to fly fish or spin fish - I am not a purist - just want to catch fish and I hear it is beautiful there. Any experience from anyone on here? Do I need/should I get a guide? Or are the rivers (Provo and Weber) easy to access?

Thanks!

Have you fly fished before? I’d hire a guide, you’ll most likely enjoy it a lot more. I went yesterday in Deckers, CO, went last week also. I’m new to fly fishing so it’s a little frustrating. My biggest issue is trying to tie the tiny flies, it’s driving me nuts. I’m going to hire a guide at some point.

Might end up getting a guide but alI can find online is fly, fly, fly - again I don't mind, but just not my #1 way to catch them. I may just wing it - find some river access and go.

The Provo will be difficult to access if you can access that is. It’s usually way down in a steep canyon. It’s all gonna be private property too I’ll bet. You might be able to fish the roadside streams. I’d advise hiring a guide.

Had a good trip. caught Cutbow and browns with a guide on the Lower Provo and tiger trout, cutthroat, rainbow, and whipers in lakeside and park ponds/lakes. Beautiful area.

The middle Provo in Midway has plenty of wading access. Hit up Jan's Sporting Goods in PC. They have a fly shop there and I have always gotten solid fly selection info from them. The Weber fishes well there too. Check regs if you spin fish, many areas are CR only and single hook barbless.

Love the Middle stretch of the Provo. Have fun

The weber River use to be good when I grew up in Utah.
Also another one close to Park City is below Rockport.
Lots a good places within 30 minute of Park City.

Try up the mirror lake hwy also.

Thank you,
Shawn Smith
