Seems like every other darn post on this forum involves bashing anyone who does not fish for carp or who do not hold the carp in high esteem.
And the bashes against bass fishing are 10-1 against any other style. It sounds like jealousy, especially with the oft mentioned 30k bass boats and $300 bass rods. Why would that be, seeing as how you are doing what you like to do- fishing for carp. Why bash everyone else and especially bass guys? They are just pursuing the species of their choice just like you are.
I see some folks here carry on about how the "vast majority" of bass anglers do this or that or feel this way or that way. They must really get around to have met each and everyone of the "vast majority" and to therefore have something other than just a half-baked opinion of what someone they never met does or feels.
Why don't you all just get your shorts unbunched over TX not listing your favorite fish as a game fish and move along? Or start bashing those in Austin keeping carp off of the gamfish listing and leave everyone else alone?
It is just another species among many to be pursued, not better than nor worse than any other species. Just different.
I personally get bored soaking bait and don't often pursue carp for that very reason, does that somehow make me the enemy?
Sure seems that way and you would get a lot more converts to carp if there was less of it. For that matter I have thought a time or two about joining the group (cause carp do pull hard as heck), but did not want to have to verbally defend myself or listen to a bunch of bashing if it came out that I prefer bass tournament fishing to all else and often do it from a 30K bass boat.

The comments you're speaking of come from a minority of people here....right? I also see this small number of people speaking like this a small portion of their posts.

you're lumping us ALL into one group that do this ALL the time, when in actuality, it's a couple people doing this a small amount of their posts.

Maybe I have the wool over my eyes....I must, cuz most of us are multi-species fishermen who don't limit ourselves to carp and buff. That being said, you're tellin' me I'm being mouthy against myself? Last 4 times I went fishin', it was primarily bass or crappie.

But,

I do apologize for anything any friends of mine may have said to you or your buddies that offended you or that was off the mark. We carp fishermen are very passionate, just as bass fishermen are. I hope we can change our perception of being PETA or bass bashers, or whatever negative view of us there is. I've met several of the people on here and not one has rubbed me the wrong way.

And remember,

as long as men have feet and a mouth, they will now and then meet. We all say stupid things now and then or say something in a way that isn't understood by others. I know I've said things on here a few times I wish I hadn't, but that's life. Hopefully I haven't said anything toward you that was out of line.

im sure it's just for a laugh, nothing to take too seriously. but i can't really defend what i don't say i guess. we don't usally get a lot of respect from bass anglers (or any other anglers for that matter), so there might be some bitterness there. who knows really.

Well, for what it's worth, I don't prefer any one type of fishing over any other species. I try to see what is biting and go after that one. I hardly ever keep anything anymore. I live alone and don't want to go to all the trouble of cleaning a bunch of fish that will be in the freezer forever and end up in the dumpster. Every fanatic has his day. Bassers and carpers are, for the most part, fanatics. I wouldn't waste money on a 30 or 40,000 dollar bass boat even if I had it to spend. On the other hand, you carp fanatics spend hundreds of dollars on your specialized rods and baits. Unless the carp are feeding where you are fishing, it is boring as hell to sit and wait. Same for bassing, unless they are biting its also boring. If you want fast action, stay by the dock and bream fish. Pound to ounce, they fight as hard as any bass or carp. All Im trying to say is quit griping abut the other mans fishing and worry about your self. 'cept when you start checking my juglines or trout line for me. Then I get a little p o'd.

I seem to remember that thread being started by a bass angler..Jim, you'll notice the first thing we did was to invite the original post author to join us on the bank. Yeah we "ALL" bash bass anglers. On one hand you complain about us talking about the "vast majority" of bass anglers then you go on to stereotype us in the same exact way. Brilliant guy this one.... Seems you came here to stir the pot, well OK. FYI my rods and reels cost more than yours..and they are longer!!! How that for phallic envy? We've been bashed forever and its just starting to turn around due mostly to the efforts of the Lonestar Carp brigade. But yes we are still bitter sometimes. I admit that our jokes are often lined with it or poorly masked dislike. If you saw the number of times we lose a great fish, tackle and a lot of time rerigging to some m0r0n in a bass boat you'd know why. And to hear the way many bass angler talk about us and "throwing the trash fish on the bank to die" And we DO know bass fisherman, a good number of us used to be tournament bass anglers with the same screwed up outlooks. So we DO have the right to speak to the "vast majority" since we used to be a part of it and travel in those circles. I now fish for white bass, catfish, black bass, crappie, gar, carp, buffalo, sunfish and just about anything else that will bite. I use fly rods, spinning gear, bait casters, trot lines, jugs and anything else that still allows me to release what I won't eat. I'm no "Carp Supremisist" though I do play one on TV. The number of people learning to fish for carp from us and others is staggering, so by your definition we must be doing just fine. You know any bass clubs that tripled their membership last year? You talk about "verbally defending" yourself, but you came HERE to stir this up. Its third thread in two days that was from non carp anglers with an aggressive and sometimes offensive tone. So in conclusion, see edit comments.

Fish love to see us fighting amoungst ourselves.

The only thing I can say is that since I started carping I have caught fish I never thought I would ever catch. Also pound for pound bass do not hold a light to carp fight wise and well you cannot horse a carp in like you can a bass.

Normally most of the 'Bass Bashing' is done in reply to something a bass angler has posted.

I still fish for bass and read the LMB Section every day I am not fishing. It seems to me you have enough bass anglers bashing other bass anglers that you really don't need to be bothering the carp guys.

If what I said did not apply to you then great!
And since I am one of the "vast majority" and yet have never looked down on any species and would never consider just "throwing a trash fish on the bank to die" no matter what the species, then I feel the comments made about the "vast majority" are made without merit. A vocal few do not a majority make, and I can guarantee the hot topic at bass fishing tournaments is not how they feel about carp fishing. Most of the guys I have meet don't promote strong feelings one way or the other in regards to the subject and if they do have strong feeling they are not going around sharing them.
My main point was that bashing promotes bashing and I thank some of you very much for helping me make my point.
I'll just go back to lurking now.
Heck I might even show up and fish with you all at one of your gatherings, under an assumed name of course. Cause at this point I doubt I am very popular with some of those who frequent this forum ...LOL!
