Looking for recommendations on a new starter. I bench tested mine and it will spin but will not engage. I have a 2001 mercury 150 hp EFI. What starter brand would you suggest. OEM is no longer available so have to go aftermarket. A lot on the market so looking for suggestions on what other have had success with.

I've had better luck getting them rebuilt than a cheap replacement. Find a electric motor shop and see if they'll work on it.

Without power hooked up, gently pry up on the starter drive. I have had them stick and once freed, no problems. DO NOT LUBRICATE THE STARTER DRIVE!
Transgenders: God made them, the devil changed their minds.
