Seeking wisdom from the best source I've found, TFF. North Texas is getting soaked and the 10 day forecast shows much lower temps with highs from mid 70's to mid 80's all the way up to the middle of September. Lakes levels are going to rise and water temps drop,

Where will Crappie be found in the coming days and will they be hungry?

This stretch of cooler weather, for this long, is a bit unusual for us.

Since I started crappie fishing on RR around 1997 the crappie are in the timber until October 15, it will be interesting to see what this does though as I cant remember a late summer rain like this since July of 2007 which flooded the lake so much that they had to shut the entire lake down as all the ramps closed due to being under water. It took a while before they reopened it.

I have always loved when the fish are in the main lake and the lake floods. It really pushes those fish in a certain area and makes them easier to catch. I personally think that the bite may be tough in the muddier water areas for a bit and once it clears up the bite will be on big time. The main lake itself shouldn't be muddied up enough to hurt the bite I don't think. This is all depended on how much the lake comes up. I like it to where they close the ramps.

I would pay attention when they open up flood gates. the lakes i fish don't get very muddy even with a big rain. i would stay off the main channels when the flood gates are open and fish more piles near points.

This is my first year to Crappie fish, but I'm expecting to find them transitioning into the mouths and first 1/3 of the creeks on channel swing points. I've caught ~200 crappie in my last 4 trips to Ray Roberts, but ~60-70% have been 9" and shorter- anxious to see how this weather pattern affects things.

Well we went this past Saturday and failed, but we had boat issues, so my buddy who I've been fishing with has Livescope had to put his boat in the shop. Looks like his lower unit has gone out, so I had to breakdown and buy me one of those LIvescope thing a mjiggy's - I bought it Monday and have just about got it installed, then I found out my Ultrex has to have the brain replaced cause it was going crazy in my shop, just beeping away and wouldn't turn off, so i'm scrambling to get it all fixed by this weekend.


So here is how our Saturday went - As we left the boat ramp we followed one of the brushpile guides out of Johnson Branch and about a mile out the prop just quits spinning and the engine revs up. We stop put it in neutral then reverse, then forward and realize we have probably spun a hub, so we go to Gainsville to get a new hub, swap it out and come back and it's not the hub, go back to Gainsville and pick up old hub, then back to Jordan, we hit some of the timber down in Community Cove and caught some giants (one was 15") and we ended up boating 17 - got out of there early as we were only using the trolling motor. So I'll be anxious to get back and try my new toy out. Were around another full moon so I'm anxious to find out if the fishing is as poor as it was last full moon.

My production tailed off during the last full moon too. sorry to hear about the boat troubles.

The last 2 weeks have been exceptional compared to what I'm used to. All that time and effort are finally starting to yield fruit. I've caught more in the last 4 trips than I did the previous 4 months combined

Id love to take you but I'm about 3 weeks booked up with commitments

My plan is to hit Roberts on Friday morning to figure out if the things I learned on Saturday were a fluke or if that pattern will hold for a while. The muddy water is the variable that I am not sure about. I wish Cody was posting these days but am betting he is hunting.
