Would love to fish the lake in the future, but kind of nervous because it's a border lake and have heard just one too many stories about things that can happen on border lakes. Am I crazy for being nervous about potential bad encounters, or is that fear warranted?

Only bad encounter you’d have is if you met the Mayor of Del Rio.

Now that is funny right there. Good job.

Fish Amistad a few times a year have never felt the least bit uncomfortable.

Plenty of water and fish on the U.S. side if you are nervous about venturing to the Mexico side, but I have no worries on that lake.

There’s a whole lot of water no where’s close to Mexico, you can fish Castle Canyon & the Devils river for weeks and never be close to the border.

Answer to the age old debate about border fishing: A. if you are scared just don’t go. B. If you are NOT scared go have a good time like me.

I've been fishing it for 20 years, both sides, no worries!

I've fished it around over 30 years both sides back in the day and never had any issues. Still wouldn't risk the Mexico side of anything these days. There is SO much prime fishing on the US side it really isn't worth being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But to each his own.

I appreciate all the feedback. I have heard about it and then saw a video on it and thought it looked like just an amazing lake from a scenery standpoint, but then fishing is great too? Now it's one of my bucket list lakes.
