Anyone using rods with the guides going around it??

A guy on fb was bragging about being able to build a rod lighter AND more sensitive rod than a Nrx so I had him build me one.

It is lighter, but thats easy lots of rods are lighter.

It came with twisted guides.

I fished it once so far, not sure what I think, seems like the feel of just my line thru the guides is different, I was fishing a slack line technique and it just didnt seem the same when I would tap the bait.

Ive re spooled it and the Nrx rod that is most similar with the same line and same baits to try tomorrow.

I've seen the Walleye guys use them.

I have thought about them before. What action did you get?
I like the feel of a spinning rod for light shakey head, but would rather use a bait caster with guides that rotate 180

I've built 100's of rods over the years and sold most of them to customers. I built a spiral guide rod this Spring and honestly I can't say it was any different from a conventional rod. If anything, the heavier the line the worse it cast and felt.

There's an old saying that applies to this, IMO ....... If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Thats my opinion so far, it for sure appears to have more line resistance working the bait and casting, but thats why I am giving it a fair shake by re spooling both rods and same baits try it again. Maybe one of them had more line memory the first day.

Medium heavy, its a little stiffer than a Nrx 853 which is the rod I use the most and told him to copy.

I had/used one for a short period. Couldn't achieve the same casting distance as my rods with conventual guide placement.

I have one that a buddy gave me when he got out of fishing, it even has the micro guides. I can't remember the name of the guy who builds them but It is my all time favorite C-rig rod.

What about it stands out above a conventional guide placement? Is it the blank? Or strictly the guides?

Custom Angle builds them I believe
I have two - bought one and was given one. Use them for deep cranking and they work ok. but they aren't any better than any other rod in my box.

This is also hard grips like a edge rod. Ill post some pics.

Its not Nrx sensetivity, I am probably going to add it to the for sale pile.

It did cast the same today as my nrx so I dont think the guides are hurting the distance they are fuji small guides not full micro but almost.

When you set the hook there is no rod twisting so it's the guides.
