Some onions are very strong and then there are others that are very mild and sweet, I personally do not like the strong onions unless they have been cooked, nothing like belching a harsh onion all day.

Red onions look better, but they tend to have a very strong smell to them and they can be too strong in taste too, to the point where they overwhelm the burger. Onions provide the crunch in a burger, so you want a good think slice of sweet onion in your burger bite, not a single ring of a stinky red onion.

I don't care for raw onion on anything, but grilled/caramelized are fine. If you use yellow for onion rings then just use those and just order one onion.

I would say green onions as a topper for beans, chili or soup.

Sweet white onions, like vidalia or some of the Texas versions

I agree red with the chicken but I sure like some big white tear jerkers on my burger. I get the simplicity for the team though in keeping it simple.
