A friend and I have a discuss ongoing about whether you should focus on catching a LOT of fish, or focusing on bigger fish and risking catching less or getting skunked from time to time.

no right or wrong. whatever you enjoy doing is what you should do. different personalities like catching and others find that boring and would rather fish for bigger fish. if you are opposite you probably wont make good partners for fun or tournaments
It depends. I've had days where I spent the whole fishing day trying to get one trophy fish to bite. Other days I want huge numbers, even if they're dinks.

Being in and enjoying the outdoors is number one. Fishing is number two. Catching fish in icing on the cake. As already been stated above. There are spots where you go to target bigger fish and others you go for numbers. What has to happen is that fish need to bite. Again the main thing is having enjoyment and fun!

To me it’s how I’m feeling that day. Some times I’ll target numbers just because it’s fun to catch. Other days I’m after that one or two bites all day big fish. I fish alone a lot so it’s really just how I feel. Like throwing a frog, some days I’ll fish it all day. Really I just love to fish. Lol
Fished a tourney back in 2017 on PK back when they had a 15" minimum. We boated over 100 black bass out of one pocket but only had 3 keepers. One was a 6.5 lber. Was throwing an alabama rig and had multiple catches of 3 fish on one cast. Had a blast but when we went to weigh in we didn't even place. I pretty much decided then that tournament fishing isn't fun. I fished for 28 years before I caught my first double digit, I've caught 7 in the 9lb range, so for me I just want to catch fish.
