I was going to go to Whitney tomorrow with my 7 yo son, but decided to head to PK instead due to questionable weather. I have only been once and it was 20 years ago and all i did was drive a friend and some buddies around in a pontoon so they could drink. So where is a good place to put in, safe to leave your truck, ect. We will be looking for some black bass and maybe some sand bass, but really i'm curious to get out there and look around..

Fishing has been tough. Fished Monday night at spots I usually do real well and only got a few keeper sized fish. Big issue is huge amount of bait. You can still catch a few Largemouth. Sand Bass numbers are low. I also sometimes get a nice cat or crappie. Even the guides are having trouble. If you look at the posts in the white bass section you wont find much about PK. This is due to the heavy rains last year allowing all the mature striped bass to leave the lake for the Brazos in a futile attempt to return to the ocean.

I fish downlake, as I live near the dam. It might be better uplake but I don't know. I heard they had a small fish kill up there. Both ramps at North D & D and South D & D on the Peninsula are good launch points. The BRA launch at scenic point cove ( The harbor) is best if you want to fish down by the dam.

If you decide to fish downlake, there are fish in scenic point cove and in Bluff creek in good numbers. Neely slough also holds some fish. I've been using live bait ( minnows / Shad)

Good luck.

much obliged! i just put in at the BRA ramp in scenic cove. we did pretty good early. the lake was absolutely glass today, which makes it rough when the sun gets high. so we toured up to hells gate down to the dam and my son was impressed at the landscape. we'll be back.

It's a gorgeous lake. Best in Texas. Fishing can be tough but it will pick up in the next few years. Lots of small stripers and they just stocked SM Bass.
