I have never caught a smallmouth bass. Sad to say that as I have been fishing quite a bit in my time. Where in Texas can I go, that does not require a boat, to catch a smallmouth bass? I do have a kayak though.

Go to the texoma ramp by the dam on the Texas side. You can fish the cove just to the west of the ramp from the shore. I haven’t caught big ones there, but I have caught a lot of them. I would wait till it cools off just a little, so they move closer to shore.

Not sure where you are located but the devil's river in west Texas has a good population of them. I've caught some 3-4lbers

Texoma, Belton or Stillhouse, I think Belton has the best population per acre.

Whitney is a multi record holder of the top 50 in Texas. Always worth a trip there.

Bridgeport will be good here in a few years. Been catching a lot of the 2019 stock 10-12 inches.

Have you heard of, or witnessed, a smallmouth being caught there in the past couple years?

Wait until November and hit Texoma. Put in at Eisenhower State park and head either direction with a small deep diving chartreuse crankbait.
