Last weekend we had a small bit of success going to Lake Alvarado and had a good time catching my sons first catfish. This weekend I am taking my daughter and not 100% about going back to the same spot as we only caught 1 and our main goal is to have our first family fish fry. My wife last night told me "Ya know if it WAS the end of the world i dont think we could rely on fishing......" Needless to say it hurt my feelings lol but i shruged it off an played it off on the summer heat and bank fishing VS. Boat fishing blah blah blah... Anyway I am looking for some opinions on what lake or body of water near me would be best for both 1) safe night fishing with my kiddo (im a big dude and keep protection but dont want that to be the memory we make) and 2) a decent chance to have a fish fry for us 4. Closest to me in order is Lake Benbrook, Greenbriar Park, Lake Pat Cleburne, Lake Arlington, Lake Worth, and Eagle Mountain being the furthest from me. I live in Crowley if that helps anyone with suggestions. We plan on leaving after I leave the office and get home so if I dont have any solid leads then we will go back to the same spot and try something a little different that littlewheel suggested and try some dip/ punch bait on a treble hook instead. Any tips, pointers, recommendations are of course always welcome. And I will post up our results whether we get skunked or not. Wish us luck if anything so I can help my daughter catch her first catfish (she was not happy brother was the first lol) Thanks everyone!

Wishing You Luck!!! It would seem that Saturday night might be best to try (ZIP day going into a BFT day), over Friday ZIP day going nto a ZIP day, as to my Catfish Calendar. Next weekend-- 24th going into 25th will be a BCday to a BFT day, and Saturday night BFT day to a YC day.

As to BFT (Buffet), I usually catch more Channels. BC is naturally a BC day. YC is a YellowCat & Gator Gar day, but is also good for Blues.

Thanks Lynn! We have caught 2 tonight! So our best night out so far. 1 was a keeper and the other a little too small. Gonna give it maybe an hr or 2 longer and call it a night. Will keep you all posted on how the rest of our nightfishing adventure goes.

Just got home and eating a snack before some Netflix and bed. My daughter had so much fun. Final count was 2 channels 1 LMB and the biggest shiner iver ever seen. We ended up throwing them all back (except the shiner we used for cut bait) since it wasnt enough to do a fish fry just yet, but we are getting closer! Thanks so much to littlewheel for giving me some tips that helped me get a few more bites at my mediocre spot.

You are welcome. Keep plugging away at it and you will continue to get better. You need to try some Stubby’s out there from the bank. The fish are mainly deeper, but I understand you have to fish where you can fish.

Great to hear!

That reminds me, be sure & catch the September calendar when I post it. It will have a new Tip, which will be added to the KEY for 2021.
