I have bought 2 spools of 200 yards 12lb segar red label floro. After putting it on my reel I have some of it left over, but not enough to put on another reel. I am not a leader user so I am not sure what to do with it. Between the 2 spools there is more than enough to spool a reel up.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do with this line??

I keep leftover spools for use as braid leaders and Carolina rig leaders.

Donate it to your favorite arts and craft person.

Keep it for other handy uses.

Throw it in the landfill. On the spool of course.

If two spools worth can fill one reel, then use cheap backing line and fill two reels... one reel with each remaining spool of line. If you are spooling up and entire reel with good line, then you’re just wasting line at that point.

I recently saw a suggestion to pull all the line, double it back, and cut it in half. Keeps the waste down. I just saw this a few days ago and haven't tried it, so it may be a bust, but worth a shot. And sorry. I know that it doesn't help now, or answer your question.

I think i may try this. There is enough line on each that I dont think I could cast to the transition knot. Can you tie floro to mono?

That’s what I do.. use a mono filler and put my braid and fluorocarbon on top of it. Just enough to fish with with extra for retying several times. Keeps me using fresh line and not wasting the expensive stuff. I don’t ever change the filler. It never sees any action. Blood knot for mono to mono, and mono to fluorocarbon. Alberto knot for braid to mono.

I use 15-20lb big game for backing... on all my reels... I have no idea how long it’s been on them, but I can tell you a while that’s for sure!

And honestly it doesn’t matter what not you tie... just tie them together and spool up... when you get close to actually seeing the knot come out or fee it’s could, it’s time to re-spool again. One 250 yard box should fill 4 reels no problem.
