I just got a Kayak and am looking for places in the SA area. I live in Schertz, and have been to Blanco St Park a couple of times, but was looking for something closer. Any suggestions?

Not sure about "closer" but Boerne Lake was always a nice place to paddle. No outboard motors allowed so it is kayak friendly.
Dunlap, McQueeny, etc were nice lakes to yak. Not sure about accessibility these days.
I grew up on Canyon Lake and that is not too far from your area.
Head west and take 281 North and hit any of the Highland Lakes/Colorado River
Comal River
San Marcos river
Guadalupe River
Go further south and kayak Calaveras or Braunig lakes

Are Braunig and Calaveras still being stocked with Reds?

Cibolo Creek is very close by. Great fishery. Also the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels east. Good fishing as well! Also use Google.
IGFA World Record Rio Grande Cichlid. Lake Dunlap. John 3:16 Sinner's Prayer. God forgive me a sinner. I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior !

Both Calaveras and Braunig are great places to kayak. Many local kayakers have caught reds trolling along the dams of both lakes with great success, and catfishing has been good as well. Downside these days is the increase in fees, but if you hold your nose and buy an annual pass it eases the pain just a bit.
Just one more cast!
