Thinking about checking it out this weekend for the first time. Any hazards running the lake? Ideal ramp to launch at? Thanks

I believe you might need to pick up a permit these days.
The major hazards there are teenagers and wake boats/jet skies
For as small as that lake is, way too many jet skiers.

The lake is oriented almost perfectly north/south and if there is a north or south wind, launching solo has its challenges from the ramp on the east side of the lake. The east side ramp is usually the least busy (judging from the three times I’ve fished there)

I haven’t fished there since I heard of a possible permit requirement.

Lake Nocona is a beautiful little lake. I've, been there several times and the only word of caution would be the Black Flys. (True Story) According to a couple of the residents every couple of months there's a hatching. I have never experienced anything like it. At first they would just get in your clothes, ears, hair, mouth and it was when they started biting ....could not get out of there fast enough!! Have not been back since...rumor has it they are from China. They were brought over with "THE MURDER HORNETS ".

I use to fish it 45+ years ago quite often. It was a mud hole but it did have some descent fish in it.

It’s pretty open easy to run. South has a few trees before the creek. I think it one of the best lakes late winter to spring. Sucks in the summer.

It used to have hydrilla but I have heard they got rid of it.
That big long point mid lake had some nice boat houses on the far side. The feeder creek is nice to fish but I only found small fish there.

I do remember one very hot summer day fishing a club tournament there. Fished a jig in some of the upper end shallow docks and caught 3 between 4 and 5 pounds.

I have not fished there in well over a decade.
