I realize that passive fishing gear Isn't for everyone but it works for me and my canoe. I don't use an outboard, electronics, or even chum. I figure that by getting multiple hooks in the water at various spots and various depths will better the odds of catching those whiskered critters.

Discussions with people on this forum and a few others have helped the curve a lot.
But time on the water, taking notes, trying different things... TIME is the key.

Meeting Stubby a number of years ago, talking and fishing with him and of course, using his Stubby's Cheese Bait.

As for me, it was the Catfish Calendar. I had two YellowCat teachers teach me as much as they knew. However, I still very rarely caught any Yellows or much other Cats. That is until I worked for Western Company (oil well cementing) in 1981-1982 & had a timed set of days off (not weekends except once a month). All of a sudden things changed, as I was finally starting to catch Yellows. I felt I had stumbled into some sort of pattern. While researching my suspicions, the Calendar proved to be correct. I also found an erratic pattern for Blues as well.

Time on the water, fishing with people more knowledgable than myself/guides, taking notes on each and every trip, right gear, quality fish finder, smart trolling motor.

Patience has never been my specialty. Now at one time I was in fact a math geek. Yes I was not afraid of any calculus. Five strokes ended my math fun and I cannot do my checkbook most of the time. It is funny I still make everything s math problem but I cannot go math any longer. 5 strokes was good for me in several ways and it gave me more of that patience.

Not being stubborn to try different ways of fishing No doubt Sam! there are a million ways to skin a cat and same goes for Catfishing. I’ve fished with a ton of different anglers and not one has done things the same. Gotta find your own style of fishing that works for you.

My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

Following the jug liners! I'll stay upstream of them while they chunk out 15 - 25 jugs. When I see them flagging, I'll wait until they move on and drift over that spot. Yeah, I'm a potlicker. I have no shame.
