I was looking to catch some bass, I tried the soft shad and the Rapala bleeding shad, no luck, so I tied on some Rebel crawdads. I said to my self one more cast with the shad, boom the fish hit the shad as soon as it hit the water, to my surprise it was a fairly good catfish. So I threw the shad in again and let it soak, I started casting the Rebel, I was watching my shad line and again as soon as my lure, the rebel this time hit the water the catfish lunged at it and inhaled. So I put Rebels on both my rods and I cast them out, I let one sit and drift with the wind, I watched the water and I could see swirling close to the floater, so I made a cast with the second rod and same thing the catfish inhaled. http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l68/weebrio/100_1197.jpg

Millers pond is six acers, I only saw one other person fishing while I was there, that was through the week, I did not see a lot of evidence of people fishing, it is very clean, I found a couple of peices of old fishing line and I snaged an old set of hooks.
There is Earl Scott pond about a mile from my house, there are empty worm containers and all sorts of fishing bits and bobs liying around. it is a scruffy little pond, I walk the dog there sometimes.
Millers pond looks like it is fished but only lightly, one whole side is flat bank with moss and hydrilla and right now it is full of water, It is a little dificult to fish over the moss and hydrillia which extends out a few feet.
What I do is reel in my line till it is almost touching the weeds, then I stop reeling and let my lure pop up to the surface and then I extend my arm and rod as far out as I can and I flick the lure out of the water, it only takes a few seconds, but I dont have to fight my lure through the weeds and clean of all the vegitation every cast.
I was not fishing for cats, I was fishing for bass and never saw or caught any of them which leads me to the question do bass and cats not mingle, is the bass in another part of the pond. One guy was watching me fish and was suprised that there were fish in there, he lives there and said he has hardly seen any one fish there, and though it was because there were no fish.

I have some buddies that fish the mississippi river out of Baton Rouge. This last weekend they caught catfish 25lbs,19,16,13, and 10. They said that instead of the usual "taps" the cats were bending the poles over regardless of the size of the cat. Maybe they are spawning??

So this evening from five until eight I went with my daughter to Millers pond, on the way to my preferred fishing spot I saw a boy with two Catfish on his line and he had three in his ice chest. So I started fishing, my daughter caught about twenty Perch in short order, it was hectic, I tried a few lures, rapal`s and strike kings, then I tried cube steak, nothing, some Mexicans next to me were catching one or two smaller Catfish on what I do not know. I then tried Berkely Gulp Catfish bait, steak cubes and bacon strips, I caught one on the bacon strip. I then changed all my lines to bacon and I caught three more Catfish really quickly, and my daughter caught one, all about 12 to 15 inches long, so next time you go take some bacon it should get you some fish. Now the rest of the saga, while I was fishing away, a branch on a tree behind me broke off and just missed us, while we were tending to that one of my rods bend double with a fish, and my daughters did also while she was not really paying attention, who could blame her. So I reeled in that fish on my line and gave her rod and let her reel in her fish, I took a step backwards to assist her with her fish and I tripped over my rod holder and fell backwards in to the pond, completely under the water. My digital camera is toast I think, I had some good pics on there I may be able to save them on the memory card. So from a soggy and smelly perspective I bid you goodnight.
PS, A couple of that Catfish inhaled the hook, I had to cut the line on them, the other fishers were keeping them I dont keep fish I catch I throw them back but tonight I gave them away.

Weebrio, have you tried chicken livers out there? How are you baiting the bacon? Single hook? Where is the preferred spot at? I tried millers pond once fishing from the play area side and had no luck, but i have been wanting to go back there. Good to know there are fish in there. Have you ever caught any bass there?

Well i went out there tonight. i caught 3 cats. One of them smelled badly and some juicy stuff squirted out of it when i was removing the hook. Needless to say i didnt keep that one. As i got there, i met this man who says that he works there for parks and rec. He said that they just stocked the lake a couple of weeks ago with catfish and bass. One guy he saw earlier today caught 15 cats. I will go back tomorrow evening. I guess people around here do not know that there is fish there. There were tons of people there at the park and courts, but only about 3 people fishing.

I caught one there yersterday morning and I saw a guy with a good size bass in his ice chest. I walked all around that pond yesterday, ,lots of hydrillia and pond scum, the place where I fish is from the high bank. I have noticed that also, lots of people over at the basket ball courts etc, a few people fishing.

I was out there last night again. Weebrio, there are bass out there. I lost a 4 to 5 pounder. I was using a rattle trap, got a hit. My mistake was that i didnt set the hook hard enough and lost it when it jumped out of the water. I did get a good look at it though. Pretty good size .
