Hey everyone! I'm heading down to the galveston area this weekend in hopes of catching my first ever shark. Is there any advice y'all could give me? Bait, general spots, tips, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

How will you be fishing? Boat (inshore or offshore), jetty, or surf.

When I surf fish for sharks I take shrimp and catch non-game fish in the surf. Then I cut the fish up for bait. You need a stiff rod and heavy weight to throw the bait as far as you can. Most anglers use 12’ surf rods. Many anglers take the bait out in a kayak. Generally, the bigger the bait, the bigger the shark. If you are shark fishing in Texas, you are required to use non-offset, non-stainless steel circle hooks. Solid wire steel leader is best.

Good luck and let us know how you do.
