So this guy tells my son (in his first boat, my old 2000 zx185) that you can turn the ping speed and scroll speed to max (HDS 12 gen2 touch) and mount a DI transducer sideways on the trolling motor (Ultrex) and its pretty much Panoptix? I'm might be wrong, but calling [censored]. Thoughts??

You’ll get an image (if you don’t angle it too much), but it won’t be anything like livescope. It might be Panoptic”ish”, maybe on a very archaic comparison. I wouldn’t buy a setup and hope for it to work, maybe try it if you already have it.

you might come close to the panoptix view (non livescope) but won't have the live action panoptix does.

plain panoptix is different than the livescope pic, looks like regular sonar. I almost got this instead of the livescope.
