Buddy and I were talking about how we haven’t caught any bluegill since we were kids. He’s going to be in town this weekend and is bringing his boat. Would anyone be willing to point us in the right direction (not asking for your honey holes) from somewhere within about an hour and a half of the Canton area?

Plus #1. Side Note: Both above places are loaded with nice Bluegill. You also have two larger lakes in your area. Tawakoni and Fork. Fork is noted for big bass. Where ever you have big bass you are going to have big Bluegill. In the bigger water bodies fish are in 8 to 15 feet of water by structure such as docks, rock beds, and over hanging tree limbs. I would use night crawlers. Hope you find some and please let us know how do.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve heard Fairfield has some good sized fish too - May keep that as an option since I know Athens can get pretty crowded with pleasure boat traffic. Definitely enjoy the smaller lakes more

If you are in the Canton area then you need look no further than my home lake, Athens. One of the very best bluegill lakes in the state not just in numbers but also in size. The below pics are from the last time I was on the lake. The cutting board is 12 inches wide so you can have an idea just how good og slabs this lake kicks out. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/KhKOyGo.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/ejCxb6P.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/y4g1dZv.jpg) I would put Lake Athens up against any lake in the state for good gills. It may not be the best but I assure you it is in the top 5.

Fairfield Lake State Park. If you look up Hook City TV on YouTube he has a number of videos of big bluegills he catches there. Makes me want to buy a flatbottom and go myself!

Just wanted to say thanks again for all the feedback.
We fished Fairfield on Friday and Hawkins on Saturday. The big limiting factor on finding the big ones was that I forgot he didn't have any electronics on his boat yet - I think the bigger fish were a bit deeper than we were fishing. We caught a ton of fish on both lakes - but nothing huge like we were looking for. Plenty of good sized fish to eat though!

I like to fish East tex. lakes . I don't care about having to drive through Dallas.
