I have heard a lot about the llela and lewisville dam. When is the best time to go, when the gates are fully open or barely letting water out? What should i use? I know where it is but i don't know what to use. Also, is the annual pass ($30) worth the money?

it's worth the money if you go frequently and they don't close the dang thing down...there's a history of closing it down.

As far as "when" to go, any time! The cool thing about Llela is pretty much every time you go there you catch something totally different. We've had days we hauled on White Bass and Crappie, days that have produced Hybrids and River Carpsucker, Days that have produced Largemouth and Spotted all day long, and the last time, it was all drum, and gar!

Tons of buffalo in there too, and catfish.

And you can't always hit it when the gates are open or closed, as it's only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Anywhere you want.

When the current is up, fishing the eddies and slack water beyond the main current produce.

Fishing the walls and ledges and rocks, when possible, produce, but expect plenty of snags.

When the water is down, fish the deeper holes, and again, the eddies near the main current.

I have found if you fish directly off the pier area there if you catch something big you have to pull it a ways up. I would suggest to go down the stream about 100 yards and fish there. Becarefull of snakes around the rocks! BTW if you see anyone with a throw net and taking small fish call up to the gard shack and they will get down there in a hurry ... That is one thing i like about the place and dont mind paying.

I'm planning on going out there on Friday with 2 or 3 of my friends. its going to be our first time out, and it will be last for them if they don't catch anything. Does any one else have any other tips about fishing there(bait wise and how to fish it)? We don't care what we catch, but we(mainly them) have to catch something b/c i won't go by myself. Is there a bait shop near there where we could get minnows?
