We rented a beach house at San Luis Pass west of Galveston. Any good fishing spots near there? Piers, wading, surf? I'm looking for Trout and Reds. No boat. It is close to Red Fish Cove and Christmas Bay. We leave on Thursday.

Thanks for any info.

Sure is alot of good fishing their, either side of the Pass bridge, go over the Pass bridge turn on either side of the road to the beach area just be careful and don't get stuck, well if you do someone is always there to get you unstuck for a fee, lol wading is good just watch your step and don't go to far out big bull sharks and rays shuffle your feet and cover up if you haven't been in the sun for awhile, lol

It's all good. If you can find some croaker for bait, it's
about that time. Be careful if you wade the Pass, it very dangerous. You can access very good wade fishing in Christmas bay right from Blue Water Highway. The surf is good from Follet's Island or Galveston. The pier is also very good. Shrimp under popping cork, live croaker on a flounder rig (carolina rig)jerk him every once in a while and the trout will hammer it. Also sand eels, cocoho's, bass assasins, texas trout killers all work just pick a color and stick with it. Top dogs and she dogs or good topwater baits. The new redfish spinners work good too.

San Luis Pass Fishing Pier, on the Freeport side of the toll bridge ($3) has a daily fishing report
http://www.sanluispass.com/index.asp?page=reports
On the Galveston side, wading in the bay is good - be very careful wading the pass or beach - it's like a river there when the tide's ripping. Christmas bay is good too, with wading accessible along the highway. Good luck.

Trip was a bust. Lots of seaweed and high surf mixed with me getting sick. I caught 5 hardheads.
