Does anyone have a cure for mud wasps building nests under your outboard motor cover? This year seems to be a lot worse than years past.
I cleaned out 8 mud nests today. Two ,nearly the size of tennis balls, surrounding the spark plug wires.
A real PITA to clean out.

install a 12 v lite under the cowling we did this at the marina i worked at and it works. a dirt dobber will only build a nest where it has the least amount of lite. that is why you don't see the nests except under the dock roofs or inside of a structure

I believe they build where they do to avoid rainfall. It tends to dissolve mud.

I had one in the air intake on a four wheeler once. Those things can wreak havoc. The best cure may be to run it more often.

They’re so bad this year, I had one build a nest on top of my boat lift cable roller. It fell off as soon as I lowered the boat. I was going to try a Hot Shot No Pest Strip if it will fit inside the cowling.

Why would an ear tag repel mud dauber?

That's an excellent idea that I've never heard before.

Because it contains something that repels insects. I use them in the deer blind. No wasps !

The Hot Shot No Pest Strip seems to be working great. I put it under the cowl hood when I return to dock and remove it before heading out.
