caught some nice blues at the narrows sunday fishing in about 12 feet right by the cliffs up the river. Water was very high. Caught some monster shad for bait. One of the cats was full of eggs. Anybody doing any good over there.

well, first you need the right bait. you need shad. Get you a 4 or 5 foot casting net and be around the boat ramps at daylight and use your net to catch some shad. At daylight. Not 30 minutes after daylight. At daylight. Never fished around the 360 bridge so I dont know anything about it.

I've tried the 360 bridge a few times-- no luck -- a couple guys i talked to while fishing there say it's best about 2 or 3 am but i haven't tried there since last year

I went out to the 360 bridge a couple of weeks ago since it's by my house and had zero luck. There's a bunch of hydrilla out there and it makes casting and retieving your line a real pain in the a**.
Never going back.

TPWD says town lake is poor for catfish. I've never tried though, but I heard there's alot of carp there.
I also would like some pointers for cat fishing on Travis. I went out once near Cypress Creek on a kayak just trolling hot dog chunks laden with garlic gel, but didn't get anything. Hooked up a couple of bass though.

I go to a private dock in Volente so not too sure exactly where all the free public holes are out there for Travis. Here's a link someone posted here a while back that I saved because I thought it might come in handy: http://www.texassailor.com/marinas.htmLooks like a bunch of marinas around Travis that could be good for dropping a line. I'm sure some allow fishing while others might not -- there are phone numbers for each marina so you could call and ask. quatin: "I also would like some pointers for cat fishing on Travis" I've had the best luck fishing at night with cut bait -- live shad or perch (dead ones or chunks are fine too). Fish off the bottom without a bobber and use about a foot and a half lead between the hook and the sinker. I tried chicken livers, worms, hot dogs, store bought stinkbait and never had much luck -- and when I did catch something it was usually small.

Cypress creek produced a record R & R catch earlier in the year. It's not that much farther than the 360 bridge. Also the carp guys are always catching cat's from the bank at Emma long park when they go for thier carp trips.Alot of hydrilla, so you gotta be able to cast past that stuff or use a kayak to take bait out. I have caught cats at Mansfield damn park at night. If i go there,it's after the park rangers have gone for the night.I think they close at 9. I have caught some 5 lber's at the boat ramp/dock. Travis as big as it is, is a hard lake for bank fishing for cats. Now that it's full,I can't get to my favorite spot where i caught a 25- 17- 11 lber's last year.Out at arkasas bend park.If you had a truck, you could get out pretty far on the right side of park. But the water was 40 ft low.Last time i tried to get over there i got stuck in the creek cause my truck is a 2wd. I agree with mortimer in the fact best fishin from bank is at night & using cut bait. I need/want to get a boat!!!!!!! http://www.laketravis.com/main_recreation.htmThers alot of parks on Travis but some are a good drive

I agree with MortimerTX. Too many people, too many weeds and not enough fish. My suggestion to anyone who is thinking about going to the 360 bridge to fish is, you might as well go to your local sewer and drop a line. Both places are surrounded by a bunch of turds and at least at your local sewer you wont have too far to travel.

mauro & baclash: I just got a boat recently. Got tired of the bank and figured I deserved it. Keep checking Craigslist for a good deal. Austin is a high-tech city and there's a ton of listings there under "boats". Heck, maybe you two can throw in together to get one. If you are patient you'll find a good deal on C-list. Here's one that just came out today for $1800 that looks like a good deal that is affordable. http://austin.craigslist.org/boa/347609377.htmlGo for it.
Live each day like it's your last because one day you'll be right!
