First time was crappie fishing in Lowell Pond in denver, colorado, when i was about 6-7 yrs old...i remember the button cast reel and red/white bubble bobber lol and crappie tubes, i had no clue of what I was doing, I would occasionally cross lines with other people as I did not know how to cast lol, but i guess since I was a kid, they didn't mind me much, i remember that day like yesterday My dad was never really into fishing, but my uncle sure got me hooked on it I've grown to love fishing so much that I enjoy just being at the lake whether or not I catch anything, catching the fish just makes it THAT much better

The moment my Dad decided I was old enough to hook the fish and not myself or others with a cane pole. And I hold the times we fished together very dear to my heart. Of course the seas of time are pretty wide between that shore and this one (my first catfishing pole was a 5.5 foot steel rod, direct drive knucklebuster reel with dacron line on it for goodness sakes, so as you can see that has been a good while ago), but I still remember those days like they were yesterday. Of course I can't always remember what I had for lunch yesterday but that is another story...LOL!

I fished a little bit back in the early 60's when I was a youngster, but never really "got it". I guess I lacked patience.
I've been a boater ever since I was a Sea Explorer in my teens, but never fished because I was the guy driving the boat.
Last year when we moved to Texas I needed another form of ID to get my driver's license switched over, so I got a fishing license. My second day out I caught a 7 pounder on Amistad and I was hooked deeper than that fish.
Now I'm trying to make up for lost time!

LOL, same mode of transport but a different venue ...the river Severn just outside of Worcester, England. As I got older, my younger brother got the gas tank and I rode my bicycle alongside my mom. First fish would have been a bleak (similar to a shiner) that we'd snatch off the top with maggots, the bleak would then go in a bucket as bait for the Eels we'd really be chasing.

I started in the early 80's up in Michigan. We had a pond on our land full of Bass & cats. I ventured out from that to any water hole, creek or river I could find. Came across some Northern Pike in a real deep part of a creek along with Carp & really got hooked on fishing. I did a lot of Trout & Crappie fishing at my Uncles house near Houghton Lake. I moved to Texas in 98 & have been learning the local DFW lakes ever since.

I grew up a city boy, and can remember riding around on the subways at nine years-old going over bridges that had a nice-looking body of water below it (usually a nasty-looking creek or something). I would always remember those spots and come back later for some fishing.
Most I of the time I would not catch anything--but I sure had a good time trying. My friends always made fun of me growing up due to my fascination with fishing. It's obviously embedded in me as I love it more now (37) then I did back then.
Good topic!
