Headed to Surfside Beach later this week. I’ve never been in the area before and was looking for any suggestions on areas to try or species to target. I will have a 22 foot center console as well, but can’t get super skinny. Thanks in advance.

Maybe you'll catch this before you leave, but I grew up on the west end of Galveston. I'd suggest heading down the coast road and look for some access to the bay shore on your left. There are several turnoffs, depending on rain (and how much you want to get salt water into your undercarriage) you can drive most of the way to the bay. You should check out Arcadia Reef (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Arcadia+Reef/@29.0294096,-95.2224423,6751m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x864072228ecd6511:0x2f5b129101b3c62c!8m2!3d29.0294112!4d-95.2049327), especially at outgoing tide, as a lot of water runs through the deeper cuts there. You'll also find some potholes along the shore -- trout love to lay in these. Use Google Maps and the satelite view, you can see the potholes here (https://www.google.com/maps/place/29%C2%B002'11.8%22N+95%C2%B011'29.4%22W/@29.0366147,-95.1936877,844m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d29.03661!4d-95.191499).

Fish -- probably specks and a few reds this time of year. If you get the right conditions, you should be able to do some sight casting.

Bottom is a lot of mud in places, especially in some of the inlets. Once you get out of the mud, you should find some nice grasses and hard mud bottoms.

If you want to take your boat out, you can put in here (https://www.google.com/maps/place/San+Luis+Pass+County+Park,+14001+County+Rd+257,+Freeport,+TX+77541/@29.0772703,-95.1343595,15.81z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sKOA!3m4!1s0x864076dbaad0fdbb:0xd86ee9908599163!8m2!3d29.0794188!4d-95.1305026), and run the pass. It can be a bit tricky to look for the cuts, but there are two that you should be able to take. If the water is nice, you can run along the beach looking for spanish mackerel and jacks (also specks). You may find some early tarpon. Look for birds and bait (as usual!).

You can also run up the west side of the bay (the water is deeper) along mud island, up to bird island. There are good flats to drift here, especially on changing tides.

Good luck and post pics smile
