They like crawfish (mediums), if you can come up with them. I have caught them on night crawlers, minnows, and on jigging spoons trying for sand bass.

Minnows, cut bait, and earthworms. Those are some nice ones.

A better question might be, what won't they hit? I've caught them on ever kind of bait imaginable, both real and artificial. If I was going after them, I'd get some redworms and fish on the bottom.

Several years ago when there was always enough water behind Granger Dam there was a group of people that fished in shifts at the end of the rocks. Two people on each side of the river, when they caught as many as they could carry out some others came and did the same. They used crawfish 1-2 in., most fish weighed 11/2-3 lbs. Never witnessed that again.

I’ve caught quit a few on rubber crawfish and square bills while bass fishing.

The ones I have caught on my fly rod have typically been on crawfish flies.
