Do anyone run a Tohatsu propane outboard?
Are you happy with it?
Is it easy to start?
A couple of years ago I read the reviews for the Luhr propane outboards and they were not too promising.
I don't mind transporting a small gas outboard in the bed of my pickup but my next vehicle will probably be an SUV and I don't want the gas smell inside a new SUV.

I was wondering about that recently. I picked up a 2020 Tohatsu catalog yesterday. They only have the 5 HP in a kicker and a sail model with 20 or 25 inch shaft. Other than the tiny LP fuel cans(pain), an aluminum 10 lb tank is quite expensive. I don't think the LP outboard technology is THERE yet. Someday, but not yet. The LUHR engines you mentioned must be complete junk. At least, 4-stroke engines have matured. Much easier to tolerate than a 2-stroke stinkpot, smell-wise. IslandJim

Not that this means a whole lot, but recently I looked into converting my old gasoline powered generator to tri-fuel. Propane, natural gas and gasoline.

I noted that the company selling the conversion kits expressly stated to not run a brand new generator on propane or natural gas. It said they must be broken in with gasoline before making the switch to propane on NG.

Kinda makes you wonder about the break in of these strictly LP motors. Is it not good for them?

We saw a SUV with a bumper mount for transporting a 3 hp outboard in the upright position with a anti theft lock . Looked like a nice way to prevent having fuel dripping on the carpets .

I have one. I bought it because I am not knowledgable about boats, etc.

Not sure why anyone would want to run an outboard on propane. Your horsepower is going to go down by 20-30%. It’s widely known the horsepower declines with propane use. The weight of propane and your mileage per tank would not be too good either. Imagine trying to find propane at a marina.
