Thinking about giving this a shot over the holiday weekend with the full moon at Lake Whitney. Anyone have any pointers? Will the fish move shallow?

I don't fish whitney but do fish every week upriver at PK. I almost always fish at night during the summer. The places I find stripers are where green lights are on a timer or where dock light are close to the water and come on drawing bait into the illuminated water. You will know when you are in the right place because you fish finder will totally fill with arches or fish symbols.

I normally fish bait but have had success in the past with lures as well in these lighted areas.

The main trouble you will have on a Holiday weekend at night is those wake boats will create some tsunamis at night you will not see coming. Be safe, wear the life jacket and have a buddy with you. Those big wakes can knock you right off that boat. You may also have some once a year boater come real close or even hit you blasting by at high speed at night. Never assume they will see your anchor light or respect a no wake zone. They may be drunk or not even at the wheel when they run over you. This is why I NEVER fish on a holiday weekend anymore.

I haven't done this in a while, but drifting over large flats at night with raw shrimp has worked in the past, no lights what So ever. Just start up wind and drift down. Use your fish finder to determine the depth, When done repeat.

I'm like PKfishin, I quit fishing at night on holidays. I occasionally fish at Whitney at night during the heat of the summer. I usually fish with crappie lights and have more luck with sandies than stripers. Small catfish are abundant on live/dead bait.

Lights or Catfish. Never tried straight up night fishing for Stripers. But, I have caught them while catfishing, at night, shallow So it's probably worth trying. I would suspect they'd be scattered on shallow flats. Could be wrong.

Did you go out? Have any luck? I fish Texoma and I would love to know how to catch them at night.

Many years ago ..... I used to do all the yard work Sunday afternoon, then load up the dog and the boat and head to Loafers Bend on Whitney. I would get there about the time all of the other weekenders were leaving or gone, about 4:00pm. I would then troll helbenders and jig rigs until almost sundown, then hit the ramp for the trip home.

On one occasion, I had caught a couple of 24 inch stripers. As I was loading up at the ramp, two young guys were getting ready to go out. I couldn't help but show off what I had caught, so I spoke to them and held one of them up to see.

Obviously one of the guys was an old hand, the other was along for the trip. The inexperienced guy says, "Wow. look at that!" His experienced buddy look over my fish and says, "Yeah, we'll do that good."

I often wonder how they were fishing, most likely live bait of some sort.

Then, if I remember correctly, there was a guide on Towakoni who was doing well on live shad under lights. I don't remember his name, but I decided to give it a try. Bought a submersable green light, caught shad, and sat under two mile bridge just off of the channel most of the night. Did fairly well on Sandbass and Catfish. No Stripers.

Wish I did, but got caught up with family stuff. Also, hard to stay motivated when you’re running it all by yourself. Definitely want to try it some point soon. We had a good trip on the coast fishing at night this past summer!

We are taking a weekend trip to Chambers and I'm going to try to fish the lighted dock there for hybrid. Seen a couple of youtube vids doing that. Will let ya'll know how we do.

Don't hesitate to fish green lights in 10 fow or less, as the fish just might be lurking on the edge where the light meets the dark. If bait or perch are present when you get within eyeshot, a crank , paddle tail swim bait or buck tail with or without underpin thrown past light should produce .

Going tonight at Whitney . Going to try the channel out from Harbor Master .
