Fishing from the banks on Marv's punch bait, chicken livers and night crawlers and got a couple worms eaten and that’s it. I was there from about 7am-11am. Any tips for a fairly new and anxious fishermen.

If you want to continue to fish Calaveras, my advice is............get a boat. Too shallow from the shore. Same goes for Braunig.

It is early early ealry morning and night. The north side of the park is clsoed right now and is usually one of the better areas. try the hole near the dam and reed beds or one of the two main points between the boat launches. your using the right baits, might be a set a set up problem and or depth. it's true you are limited by the bank but I have seen some exceptional fish caught form the bank, so keep your head up! Shad, perch tilapia are good baits as well, Learn to throw a cast net and use it at the ramps early dawn hours. Catch your fresh bait , carloina rig it and you shoudl hook up with anything that swims out there with the exception of large tilipia Good Luck and tight lines

Shallow is very good most of time at Calaveras, Cliff will second that notion, but shore access to good fising at Calaveras and Braunig is poor.
If a person had a boat, they could fish shallow just about anywhere in these lakes and have great success, except for where there is bank access (minus maybe the powerlines in the North part of the park).
Drop me an email duffygould (gsievers21@yahoo.com). I fish Calaveras by boat a couple times a month. You are more than welcome to join me, usually have a backseat open.

You are more than welcome to go with me and Goose if you can put up with the B.S. and don't believe any of his stories. PM me as I will probably go a couple times this week.
I will never skin another possum, de-horn another cow, or barr another hog-----everything else is price negotiable!
