Making up your own system is pretty simple. It basically consists of 4 parts:
1) Bottle (go to your local welding supply store to buy one and they will exchange it whenever yours is empty)
2) Oxygen Regulator HERE
3) Ceramic Diffuser HERE
4) Rubber Hose HERE

Of course, if you have two separate live wells, then you'll need a tee to split the hose and 2 diffusers. My setup is like this and I put a small valve in one side so when I turned on the oxygen it would only go to one diffuser until I needed it in both live wells.

If I need all this, how in the world in the last 50 years of fishing have I been able to weigh fish. I think in all that time I may have lost 2 or 3 in a well. Ice, freshening the water, and keeping the air fresh has done us old guys forever. Its like your smart phone, you can do just fine without it, probably better because you have to think and act.

If it was a stupid idea, you can be assured I have already done it

Cause recent studies are showing how much delayed mortality is big issue after weigh ins. Pure oxygen systems help to ensure the fish lives beyond the release. Most fish weighed in are "alive" but a percentage definitely don't make it a few days later.

This is far from true.. Most all of the oxygen in our lake water is put in by sunlight and the healthy growth of algae and photoplankton. Photosynthesis, whether in open air or in water produces oxygen.

Bright sunny days are when you will find the surface water (When a lake has good algae and photoplankton) supersaturated.. That being to the point where the water can hold no more and it simply volitizes off the surface.

Oh look, an actual fact!

you are missing the point. colder moving water holds more 02 than warmer water. if you keep your livewell 10 degrees below surface water temps it holds more dissolved oxygen than constantly adding new surface water all day long. also, would you agree that the depth you catch your summer fish in has the same temp as warmer surface water? remember jumping into the lake and it get colder the deeper you go? there's a reason bass live deeper during the summer and the lakes develop a thermocline. but to each their own of course...

I have found nothing like this that compares to the information found here, anywhere:

There are many different kinds of O2 systems to pick from and they all have limitations, pro’s and con’s: https://oxyedge-chum.com/compare-oxygen-systems/ Some of these life support systems are very dependable, some fail when you are really depending on it to work and keep bait and fish alive like now in the Dog Days of Summer.

Beware of all those adjustable click-style medical O2 regulators (aluminum O2 regulators made in China that deliver doses of Oxygen, calibrated in liters per minute and fractions of liters per minute), Galvanic Corrosion is a big problem with all aluminum O2 regulators use in and around marine environments. Galvanic Corrosion results in that’s that white power substance you see forming on outside and inside that aluminum medical O2 regulators made in China. https://oxyedge-chum.com/why-some-o...en-regulator-failure-galvanic-corrosion/
These regulators are a primary cause of O2 system (life support system failure). https://oxyedge-chum.com/homemade-oxygen-systems/medical-oxygen-regulators/

It is clear many bass fishermen are convinced that pair of $50 air vents in a livewell lid is as good or better than any O2 systems and that’s cool too. Actually you can buy 2 great air vents for $8 or so on the net at most marine supply houses. Success is winning; getting those money fish to the weigh-master with pink gills moving any… It’s alive and it qualifies!

The whole point of the bass tournament exercise is about winning that tournament prize money and a dead bass doesn’t count for much… all bass tournament fishermen world- wide know that.
