Went out to get stocked up for a fish fry after getting no-showed by my customers Friday morning. In an effort to make lemonade out of lemons, I called up two of my running buddies and didn't have to put too much "pier pressure" on them, as they have never turned down a free fishing trip. We drifted fresh cut bait in 4-8ft of water between 11:00am-3pm, and ultimately got what we were after. We threw back a handful of fish over 30lbs, and kept several good ones for the grease. The cats didn't seem to mind all the wake board boats and jet skis, and we even had a few stop and watch the action when they saw the big fish getting pulled in and netted. I know most people call me for crappie, but I sure do have a special spot in my heart for the big whisker fish. On a side note, a big thanks goes out to Clay for letting us pull up to his dock and clean fish in the shade.

214, I think your best bet for fishing from the bank this time of year would be at Tom Finley park off of 334 (road that runs between Seven Points and Gun Barrel). There are very few options on CC in regards to public access, but you should able to catch some fish there, especially with a good south wind blowing. Earlier in the year, I would recommend fishing off of highway 175 on the far north end of the lake.

Zebcoomega, I usually do very well on them shallow until around mid August. There's about a 6-8 week break in there where it's real hit and miss, but after early October they get stacked back up.

Thank you El Gato. I'm very familiar with the TTCA and already practice the CPR method. I keep about 10 fish each year over 20 pounds, as we put on a free fish fry at Lee Park (Cedar Creek party cove down by the dam) for several hundred people each summer. Those fish get fried alongside crappie and sandbass, usually totaling around 25-30 gallon bags of filets.
I 100% expected to hear a lot more griping about the fish in this picture, as most people have no idea how much work I put in with TPWD and the industry in general. The amount of fish our boat throws back in the lake each year is staggering. It cracks me up how many big flatheads and blues decide to eat tiny little crappie jigs.

Iโm just trying to promote conservation of Trophy Catfish. I made a pledge to release all fish over 10 lbs and I try and get other anglers to do the same. It your right to eat all those big fish and itโs my right to ask fellas to let em go.
