I have seen guys use the boat to help the tow vehicle get moving up the ramp. Gotta be careful doing that, concrete is tough on props.

I never go to Park Prairie. Always go to Oak Thicket.

I don't know why but I like Park Prairie more than Oak Thicket. Park Prairie definitely has a buzzard problem, though. I was listening to the Outdoors Show on 610am and one caller said that they ate the rubber seals around his truck doors. Whenever I go to Park Prairie, I park my rig in those spots over by the bathroom. There is more foot traffic there and it seems to keep the suckers off of your vehicle.

I was at Park Prairie a few years back and someone had lost their truck at the ramp. I didn't talk to the owner but I bet he went down the ramp too fast to dump his boat in the water and slid in.

So I don't know but the sad result is his truck is ruined. I witnessed a similar situation about 5 years ago at that ramp involving a Dodge 1500. It slid in after the driver panicked and got the back wheels spinning. It was a two wheel drive 1500. Basically brand new as well and it went completely under. Both ramps at Fayette get algae growing on them and they can be really slick when they get wet. I don't use that ramp at Park Prairie for that reason even though it is a much better ramp than Oak Thicket. I also installed a "trick step" which I hang onto sometimes for dear life when Im trying to take my boat out at Oak Thicket. So be careful. Those ramps get slick.

Emergency brake only works on rear axle.

Somewhere along the line it became “cool” to propel your boat off the ramp like a catapult and I can’t help wonder if this guy was doing that. Maybe not. The photo posted in another thread shows the truck facing INTO the lake, so something weird happened for sure!

You have to do that with my boat.

It’s a technique perfected at Squaw Creek. Mandatory per all the ramp Natzi’s during the winter actually! laugh

The truck was already totaled, should have dragged it out on the roof and then flipped it over. Crane was unnecessary.

Why did they call a 5 ton crane when a simple wrecker with a winch would do??

Isn’t there any way the concrete could be scored to make it rougher?

Just a thought. Decker Lake in Austin is somewhat similar. Really funky and slick ramp. Ive almost slipped a couple of times and once I slid into the water up to my chest.

They do score it, but after a few months, normal use smooths it plus the algae growth. A light right foot fixes the problem.

Typical for this time of year. Once you find them, it’s good. For me, that’s offshore once the sun is out. Might be some frog and topwater action early, but generally it’s structure with cranks, jigs, and Carolina rigs.
