Man the times we’re in.
The University of Texas at San Antonio will lay off 243 people from its workforce of 2,650 full-time staff and notify 69 adjunct faculty that they won’t be needed in the fall.

The UT system has more than enough capital to continue employing those people if they chose to. I would guess there are some internal politics involved in who stays and who goes. This makes for a good excuse to trim off whomever they no longer want around.

Quote
The System continues to maintain and protect its strong financial condition, with net position of $45.9 billion at August 31, 2019. Revenues totaled $21.4 billion in 2019.

I hate to read that....The state has told all state agencies to cut 5% from their budget for this fiscal year and I believe the next as well.

I wonder if their enrollment numbers are down and that is why they are taking such measures.

One of my best friends is a track coach in SC and I know they have had to cut some positions due to lower enrollment numbers.

I'm surprised a couple of people on here didn't say we won't miss them. We have too many college professors anyway.

Layoffs should start from the top. Bigger salary equals bigger savings for the company. 1 executive layoff could save about 20 lower level employee's jobs. Just my 2 cents.

My wife got cut yesterday after 10 years with them. Her boss was there 26 years. No forewarning just a phone call saying you are no longer employed here. It was mostly directors and assoc./ asst. directors from what we can tell.
They were becoming a liberal cesspool anyways and we thank God that she will find something better and more in line with Godly morals and principles.
Most of these Universities are taking millions and billions from communist China. Good to distance ourselves from them

I'm sorry about the job loss. Praying she finds something soon.

My MIL retired from there this year. Glad she made that choice.

Full time staff, not part time professors. We will soon see how many professors are needed.

My mom works at Trinity Univ, a prestigious private college here in SA. Their main concern is, if everyone ends up taking online classes for 2020/2021, why TF would they spend all that money to go to school there? Everyone is going into panic mode at that school.

Like in Corp America, the people at the top of the pyramid are the ones making the choices.

Chevron & Exxon Mobil announced layoffs of 15,000 while giving the CEO at Chevron a pay raise to 36 million for 2020.
