Heading to Matagorda Bay Nature and RV park the last week of July. Can I get any suggestions on what fish to target and types of bait lures etc. We will be primarily fishing from shore. I will have kayaks with me also

Fish the lighted piers at night for specks. Use a kayak to fish the west and south shores of East Matty for reds, specks, and flounder. Live shrimp works, plastics and spoons are good. Topwaters are always worth a try when itโs overcast or dark.

Thanks Jim I was thinking piers at night. Do you think vudu shrimp under a popping cork will work or should I stick to live shrimp

Also thinking Vudu and DOA shrimp in the surf. I will have a bunch of kids and novice fishermen with me trying to think of high percentage methods for their sake

Not speaking for Jim but here's my thoughts. Your vudu will work fine under a popping cork. I recommend using a 1/8 oz or even 1/16 oz jig head under a cork though. I think you get more action out of the lure with the lighter jig head. The Vudu's 2" has a light jig head. Their 3" shrimp has 1/4 oz. If kids are with you shrimp can catch more and don't require technic but you're likely to catch smaller trout along with bigger on shrimp and with shrimp you'll catch hardheads and whatever else is around.
For kids in the surf give them a spoon and let them go.
You get out of it what you put into it!
