If statues, monuments etc are public property, why don't we get a say in whether they stay or not?

Good question. That would apply to a lot of things of course - ball fields, City Hall, Police and Fire Departments, etc. Probably power given to the cities/municipalities at some point, but I do not know the details.

Most of the time you do get a say, just not the say.
The ballot box and calling your reps is the way its supposed to happen.

I believe all the rioters should be confronted by the law when they approach a statute. You won't stop it all but with a but once the message gets out that you cause damage and you go to jail and pay it will slow it down.
