I'm interested in doing some fishing offshore in the winter. I'm mostly interested in bottom fishing and fishing around the rigs. I'll be in the Port Aransas area from Dec to March. What types of fish are available at that time of year?

The Red snapper season will be closed, but you could fish for other snappers, triple tail, Amber Jack, Grouper. Check out the boats there -and their schedule- to get on a trip. You'll have 12 hour to 80 hour trips to choose from with the 12 and 24 hour trips focusing on rigs, wrecks, and reefs. www.deepseaheadquarters.comwww.dolphindocks.com

Thanks for that info. I was more interested in doing it myself. I have a 21' Triumph that I would not hesitate to take out to about 40 miles on calm days with a buddy boat but I'd prefer to stay within 20 miles when solo.

Corpus Christi is sometimes known as the other windy city. The wind blow for days in the months December to May with few opportunities of calm between high and stormy seas. With my 27 ft. Catamaran with 2 225hp outboards I was only able to go out one time last winter. Winter is for great inshore fishing in this area.

Thanks groupertrouper. I've been wintering in the Port A area for the last two years. Last year was really windy. We did almost all of our fishing inshore with a kayak and almost every day we were out we fought wind to get back to our put in. After that we decided a boat was what we needed. I love fishing inshore but there is something mysterious that keeps me looking out beyond the jetties. I've never been on a party boat as I've always been a do-it-yourself kind of guy. I don't know if I would like fishing with a bunch of people I don't know.
