I’m taking a non-fishing buddy fishing tomorrow. I’m t tying to decide between Athens and Palestine. We would be getting there at first light and maybe fish until 10 am. I’ve been both places before, but it has been a long time. If I’m trying to get more bites versus quality of bites, what would you choose and why? I did buy the boat lanes chip for Palestine if that helps. Your thoughts?

The wife and I made a trip to Athens about a month ago. I saw 5 bass boats as we came across the bridge, and the overflow lot was completely full of trucks and trailers at 7:30 am. I made an executive decision to go to Palastine instead. Just as busy, but way more lake.

We launched at Deep End and it was quiet, we stayed mostly in the southern end of the lake. When we came off the water at 3:30 in the afternoon there were people all over the place ignoring the no swimming signs. I had to dodge kids diving off the dock 3 feet from my boat while I was trying to put it on the trailer.

Either lake is gonna be a circus if you go on a weekend, but I'd rather deal with waves from pleasure traffic on Palastine over getting intimate and sharing coffee with 9 other bass boats on a grass edge on Athens. Don't get me wrong, I love that lake, but it has blown up in the last few years.

I believe you have a better chance of locating fish at Athens but will have to compete with the masses. Palestine can be tough at times.

Great fish Pake!

Congrats and you sure don't seem to be a green horn to me.
I'm sure we'll see some more big ones from you.

Nice fish bud! We ended up going to Palestine. We caught some small ones shallow , but I couldn’t find them deep to save my life. We had a great time.

No sir. It’s made by golden swimbaits and it’s similar to a bull Shad.

I'll never be returning to Athens.... Y'all locals can have it! Just not a lake worth the 3 1/2hr drive for me
