There were 1,968 violent crimes for every 100,000 people in Camden in 2017, by far the highest violent crime rate of any city in the state.May 6, 2019

It’s not like Camden disbanded the police department in total. They fell under the county law enforcement and those departments were beefed up to handle the work. The 140 member police department went away and the county staff went from 268 to 415. A police force by another name is still a police force.

Well, what happens till November? Also, I say let them have at it. Although I feel real bad for the good people, business owners, etc that will have to uproot and move. It wont take long for it to be a [censored] town where theres no businesses and they are all complaining thats its racist nobody wants to open up shop there. Then they will beg for fed funds to get businesses back and I hope they tell them to shove it. Let the liberal millionaires support them. Maybe they will all move there

They should do it. That way the rest of America can see what a failure it is and reject it. That's the way it's supposed to work in this country.

It hasn't been a failure in Camden, NJ. Whatever they did others need to copy. Crime down over 40%.

If the voters actually go for it in November, I'll make the not so bold prediction that the city's crime rate goes up and it's economy goes down. Wouldn’t want to own property there if this goes down. The language in that article about their holistic approach cracks me up good grief. Guess no one noticed what happened in Seattle lmao. Can’t wait to see if voters go for this. J. D.

Even the liberal WaPo says: https://www.washingtonpost.com/outl...being-misused-debate-over-police-reform/In reality, Camden’s police restructuring was deeply undemocratic and involved a doubling-down on “broken windows” policing strategies that increased excessive-force complaints. It was only tireless efforts from local activists and watchdogs that eventually pressured the new police force to adopt a new force policy requiring officers to avoid escalation, training them to do so and requiring them to intercede if another officer was incorrectly using force. It is this local activism — not disbanding the police force — that is the key to understanding the gains made in Camden.

Taking city councils out of the picture has to help. I can't remember any that were not dysfunctional

Camden is 70,000+ and Minneapolis is close to half a million. What may work one place might not work at the other. Personally, I think Minneapolis has brought this on themselves, so I hope that follow through. Should be fun watching the murder rate head to Chicago levels. They deserve a prize for being progressive.
