To each there own, in general I like it cause every now and then you get something good....now when the "road map to victory" is " these anglers have to catch big fish if they want to win", "the guy that figures them out will win".... deep insights like that I can do without haha

I see Wheeler dumping alot of ice directly into his live wells.
He also adds G-Juice (T-H Marine) which claims to remove chlorine.
Does everybody dump cubed ice this way??

Was always concerned about chlorine.
For years, I've been freezing milk jugs of tap water and just putting the jug in the live well.
Dont need to this?

What puzzles me is they said the water temp is 80 degrees. Seems like a lot of ice for 80 degree water.

Not a fan of the G Juice... Catch N Release or Please Release Me are my chemical of choice, but yes you can dump ice directly in the livewell as long as you put some of the before mentioned products in there at the same time. I've always done it that way and the only fish lost have been due to deep hooking or tongue hooking them.

Most of the additives claim to neutralize chlorine, and help control ammonia; they're good to use regardless.
Your approach of freezing jugs is superior to "chip ice". Chip ice melts rapidly, so you end up with a temperature profile that yo-yo's up and down a good bit. Block ice, which you've made, will last longer and results in less variation in water temperature. I've done it that way for decades. I use 2 liter soda bottles, and put the cap back on after they are frozen. I leave the cap on when they go in the livewell. This helps slow the melting, so that the cooling effect is moderated. I need fewer jugs to swap out during the day, and the temperature stays more steady.
