Kids will drive you crazy, if you let them. They know where ALL the buttons are located.

Rules of our house are no politics discussed. I know their positions and they know the wife's and mine. They are educated but that does not equate to knowledgeable. They need to put in some time to understand how things work outside the classroom then we can have an informed discussion. I think discussing politics should wait till they are 35. Same age requirement for one to become President. We are more than our political leanings...we are a family.

I was worried while my son was in college. Came home with some crazy ideas. I just told him that when he’s out of school the real world will open his eyes! It did! Lol I’m not worried now. He sees the bull [censored] for what it is. Makes me happy! It really does blow me away how different people can watch the same news and hear two totally different things!

I guess I am one of the blessed ones as all 3 of our kids lean heavily to the right. When they were in college they would come home and discuss the left teaching professors, my advice was to complete the assignment the way the prof wanted to make a passing grade, but to remember the truth and their upbringing. Even my liberal leaning DIL has moved towards the right, might even be close to the center now as she has seen the results of Obama Care at the hospitals she has worked at. My other DIL that is from across the POND has become a gun loving, right leaning soon to be a American citizen.

We’ve got two single kids, 31 and 30. Both are level headed. We raised both in the church which helped shape them into who they are today. They’ve grown up seeing their parents love and respect each other. Both are conservative. Neither really cares about politics.

My son is 17 and will be in college in a couple of years, this is the advise I have already began to mention to him every now and then. I think he will do fine, his views are pretty good at this point, and he sees the left for the bull feces it is.

Tiltman, do your kids have any knowledge of how much their college education costs? Not being critical of you, college kids often have no idea how much money is involved, even when they're checking off the financial aid paperwork asking for the maximum amount of student loans.

In general, when someone has to pay for a thing, they value it alot more.

Oldest graduated from Ole Miss last year. She started out in Liberal arts, found our real quick that wasn’t her cup of tea. Seeing and hearing all the ways libs there thought broke her. She changed her major to elementary education. At one point in time her favorite thing to wear was a Reagan/Bush sweatshirt just to pizz the liberals off. Love that kid.

My kids, 30 & 27, both 5th generation Texans, both college graduates, aren't as conservative as my wife and I, but they aren't out rioting either. They'll figure it out after they paid enough taxes and start to understand how that money is squandered. Seems to be how it works.

I was talking to my barber recently about this same subject. He asked me three questions.

Do they work?
Do they live on their own?
Do they still talk to you?

He said in this day and age if you can answer "yes" to all three, you've done a pretty good job.

True dat. I say get back to me after you've put in a few 80 hour weeks, then we'll discuss it from an adult perspective.

Our one son never went off to "university". He was a big fan of "Hope and Change". Then he got a tax penalty for not having health insurance one year as he was just starting to make some money in the real world. It opened his eyes to big government. Now he works super hard, enjoys what he does and believes in limited government and taxes. He figured it out on his own.

Our youngest son came from "university". He was an excellent athlete and understands the benefit of hard work and practice. In his spare time, he listens to wealth building and self help podcasts. He has been very successful down in the Austin area and he understands that no one is more responsible for their own success and happy but themselves. He figured it out on his own.

My daughter lives in Florida and came from "university". Took a flyer on a [censored] house in a [censored] neighborhood with her boyfriend. 3 yrs later house is a small goldmine for them. She left behind a corporate culture with good pay because she could not stand the politics and went to a 3 person firm - she is employee number 4. Their business is taking off and expanding. In lieu of a raise, her and I discussed her possibly taking an equity position in the company and they are currently in negotiations regarding such. She believes in limited government and taxes. She figured it out on her own.

Me - I'm right of Attila the Hun. Government should be for fighting wars, protecting borders and keeping the peace. I could care less about the rest.

I'm 28 and college educated. You could say I lean pretty hard to the right, as do all of my buddies from college.

One of the patterns I have noticed with these good kids that go off to school and come back libtards, typically, have never worked a day in their life. I got my first job as a life guard when I was 15. Did that for one summer. The next summer I was working on a construction crew in the Houston humidity and Texas heat. I worked every summer through college for a construction company. I learned the meaning of hard work and the value of a dollar.

I heard all kinds of ideology from very liberal professors for 4 1/2 years at a very conservative university, but it didn't matter. I had a taste of hard work and the real world and knew what it took to be successful. Now I'm 28 years old, married, own a house (well the bank owns it but they let me keep my possessions in it) and have a 10 month old son. My family is young and happy and life is good.
